Day 1
Departure in the morning and coach drive to Lake Placid in the United States. In the early afternoon, you will arrive at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. Through the exhibits, discover the cultural differences of each host country, reflected through the unique designs of their medals, torches, posters and mascots. Located in the Olympic Center, the museum is a short walk from Brooks Arena Herb, where the “Miracle on Ice” took place, and Jack Shea Arena, home of the first indoor Olympic winter skating stadium. Discover the history and heritage of winter sports at Lake Placid, the first winter resort in the United States, through artifacts, photographs and videos. You will then attend an olive oil tasting at the Saratoga Oil Company where a passionate family produces quality oils. At the end of the afternoon, free time on the main street of Lake Placid to walk and explore the shops and restaurants.
Day 2
This morning, drive to Ticonderoga for a free visit of Fort Ticonderoga. Named Carillon, by the French in 1755, and known to Revolutionary soldiers as “the old French Fort”, Fort Ticonderoga stood at the center of 2 wars and 5 battles. During the 19th century, the ruins of the fort were a center of inspiration for writers, artists, and travelers who visited the scenic Ticonderoga Peninsula. In the afternoon, guided tour of the Shelburne Museum where you will relive the era of the 18th century. Afterwards, visit and tasting at the Shelburne vineyard. Visit the vineyard and winemaking site and learn about the grape and wine transformation process. The eco-style shingle cellar building is a warm and welcoming destination with this beautiful Vermont agricultural landscape. It was built to meet strict green building and energy efficiency standards. End the day with the drive to Burlington and the overnight stay.
Day 3
The day begins with a self-guided tour of the Lac Champlain Chocolate Factory and a tasting of a little treat. The next activity is the guided tour of the Craig’s Factory and the Burton Museum. Travel through the 40-year history of Burton, a well-known snowboard brand, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the company. The Craig’s Factory is housed in a 10,000 square foot building and contains a factory, museum and workshop. Then enjoy a narrated lunch cruise aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen II. You will be impressed by the breathtaking view of Lake Champlain, its flora and fauna; an unforgettable experience. End the day with free time at Church Street Marketplace. Right in the city center, it is a veritable open-air shopping center that will seduce you with its historic architecture. The shops are spread over 4 blocks and a total of around one hundred of them can be found there!
Day 4
To start the day, board the Cog Railway for a scenic excursion to the top of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the northeast. You will enjoy time at the top contemplate the spectacular views of the mountains and valleys of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Canada and even out to the Atlantic Ocean. You will then go behind the scenes at the famous Mount Washington weather station and get a taste of what it is like to live and work at such an altitude! You will be able to meet and interact with the scientists, learn how they create the forecasts and see the instruments they use to capture the legendary weather extremes of the place! In the afternoon, you will have a guided tour of the beautiful Omni Mount Washington Resort. A cider tasting will take place on site. This luxury hotel is renowned for its history and ambiance. Several presidents, poets and celebrities have chosen the Omni Mount Washington as their favorite retreat.
Day 5
In the morning, experience a cable car excursion with the Cannon Mountain Tramway. An 80-passenger cable car takes you to the 4,080-foot-high summit of Cannon Mountain in less than ten minutes. At the top, you’ll find spectacular trails, a 360-degree observation deck, cafe, and bar. You will then have free time to visit Flume Gorge by coach: you will be enchanted by the natural beauty of the site, the towering granite walls, waterfalls, historic covered bridges, icy rocks and much more! It is then time to make the return journey. Along the way, stop for a guided tour at the Windsor gunpowder plant, in the province of Quebec. This exceptional site, on the banks of the Watopeka river, is a tourist attraction where history, nature and culture come together. Since 1993, a black powder interpretation center, unique in the country, has been set up in the carpentry workshop. A new building, called the Store, contains pieces of industrial heritage.
